今回は Modern jazz の ピアニストをご紹介しましよう。
Dexyland jazz では主にトランペットが曲をリードし、Swing jazz ではビッグ・バンド化して管楽器セクションが中心となり、ピアノはいずれも途中のワン・コーラスのソロが現れるとしても、全体ではバンジョーまたはサイドギター同様にコード進行をサポートするパートだったのです。
それがModern jazz 以後は、小編成のコンボ形式が主となって、ピアノがソロ楽器として広く主流として認められました。 以下には時代とともに活躍した主なピアニストおよびその演奏例をご紹介しましよう。
